Integrative Ophthalmology

We rarely encounter isolated eye diseases among patients. As a rule, eye diseases are accompanied by concomitant diseases of other organs and systems, changes in blood parameters, hormonal, immune and other changes.

In 2024, under the direction of Professor Mukharram Bikbov, a department of integrative ophthalmology was establshed at the Ufa Eye Research Institute. Integrative ophthalmology is a completely new branch of medicine aimed at studying the origin and development of eye diseases at a fundamental level (including cellular and biochemical levels). Today, we do not consider the eye as a separate organ, we study it as part of a single human organism. 

We provide personalized, consultative assistance to patients with eye diseases. We take account of individual characteristics of the body, concomitant diseases and the state of all organs and systems.

Our research activity is based on conducting international population-based studies. 

Main research inetests: 

- study of risk factors contributing to the occurrence of ophthalmological and general somatic pathologies, 

- study of fundamental causes of severe, recurrent course of eye diseases
