The Congress was attended by more than 4,5 thousand experts and researchers in the field of pathology of retina and vitreous from 98 countries making this Congress the largest in history.

The scientific program of the Congress included 10 main sessions, 30 courses, 20 sessions of oral presentations and 16 satellite symposia.

Only 5 oral reports from Russia were included into the scientific program. It is important to note that 3 of them were presented to the staff Ufrii GB:

- M. Bikbov, R. Fayzrakhmanov, A. Yarmukhametova, T. Gilmanshin. The impact of antivasoproliferative therapy on the macula in diabetic macular edema

- M. Bikbov, R. Fayzrakhmanov, Yarmukhametova, T. Gilmanshin. Epiretinal fibrosis in wet form of age-related macular degeneration

- G. Bikbova, O. Toshiyuki, S. Yamamoto. Caspase-dependent and independent cell death pathway involved in neuronal cell death of rat retinas exposed to AGE

The Congress was highly appreciated the contribution of the Director of SBI "scientific research Institute UV GB an RB" Professor M. M. Bikbov: the development of ophthalmology and the implementation of scientific and clinical collaboration between East and West. Evidence for this was a prestigious diploma, which was presented to the Muharram Muharemovic President of EURETINA-2013, Professor Gisbert Richard and Professor Ingrid Kreissig. Only three of more than 4,5 thousand participants of the Congress: Professor M. M. Bikbov (Russia), prof Leonidas Zografos (Greece) and Professor Mark Blumenkranz (USA) – was honored to receive awards of the Congress of the European society of vitreoretinal specialists.

- R. Fayzrakhmanov, A. Yarmukhametova, T. Gilmanshin. Silicon oil tamponade of vitreal cavity in the primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment

The Congress under the leadership of Professor I. Kreissig (Germany). courses were conducted at vitreoretinal surgery, age-related macular degeneration and ophthalmic manifestations of diabetes. In his welcome speech, Professor I. Kreissig emphasized the role of UV research Institute of eye diseases in the development of the questions of pathology of retina and vitreous. In the booklet issued by the organizers of the course, Ingrid Kreissig said that he is an Honorary Professor of the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases. All course participants received a gift of the metric ruler to determine the localization of the break in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment by the rules of Lincoff-Kreissig that were developed by the staff of the Institute – candidate of medical Sciences K. N. Ahtyamov M. K. and B. R. R. by Faizrakhmanova.

The company DIOPTEX (Austria) – well-known developer and manufacturer of medical equipment is always involved in the work of the European ophthalmic congresses and symposiums. This year in honor of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the company has released a promotional booklet, which presents and Pocket Maker machine developed by the founder of the company DIOPTEX Professor Albert Daxer for the treatment of keratoconus and high degrees myopi. The booklet stated that one of the key moments in the development of the company was to develop staff Fnihb Professor M. M. Bikbova and PhD Bikbova G. M. operations of endothelial keratoplasty with the use of the device Pocket Maker (2010).

At the end of the EURETINA Congress, the delegation of the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases, visited with working visit to a number of ophthalmic hospitals in Germany.

So, the President of the European society of vitreoretinal specialists Professor Gisbert Richard invited a delegation to visit University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, which he is. The Delegation UfriiGB was the only one among all participants of the Congress, who had the honor to visit the center.

University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf is the main one of the largest in Germany. The purpose of this visit was to familiarize with its work to provide medical eye care to the population and discussion of the development of joint research programs. At the meeting with the head of the tissue Bank Professor Olaf J. C. Hellwinkel addressed the viability of the material for the surgical treatment of corneal pathology.

Considering that "UV NII GB an RB" in the scientific departments, carried out fundamental studies on the changes of retina and cornea in various pathological processes, delegationthe Institute was invited to the technical University of Dresden (Technische Universität Dresden). Met employees Ufrii GB with the Director of the Institute of anatomy at them. Carl Gustav Carus, part of the medical faculty of the University, Professor R. H. Funk, and Director of the eye clinic at the Academy at the universities of Leipzig and Dresden, Dr. Engelmann. German colleagues presented their work aimed at using stem cells to restore substances that are lost in diseases of the retina. During the bilateral meeting were the ways of joint scientific work.

With the aim of exchanging experiences, documentation and organization structures of hospital the delegation visited the operating room and practical Department of the hospital, emergency hospital care special treatment - KRANKENHAUS DRESDEN - FRIEDRICHSTADT in Dresden. Professor Helmut Sachs – Director of the Department of ophthalmology, presented to the Russian colleagues the methods of treating retinal pathology with electronic visual prostheses retinal chips. For the first time in Russia about the conduct of this study, Professor H. Sachs reported in Ufa in the framework of the scientific-practical conference with international participation "East-West – 2010".

Retinal chip device, which is a plate that is implanted in the Central zone of the retina in the macular pathology. The chip is designed to replace the function of the retina, the photoreceptors which are unable to perceive light. The principle of operation of the device is as follows. The image falling on the retina is perceived by the chip after processing the image activates the conductive cells, thereby sending impulses to the Central nervous system. On this issue work together the max Planck Institute in Tübingen and several research institutions in Germany.

At this time, in the clinic, KRANKENHAUS DRESDEN –FRIEDRICHSTADT to carry out clinical study of this device, the purpose of which is to assess the status of visual functions in patients after the implantation of the chip, as well as modernization of its perceiver matrix. Preliminary results showed that totally blind patients after such operations beginning to see the light and are able to navigate in space.

To date, no one in Russia is engaged in this problem. For the first time in our country reached the Russian-German agreement to holdjoint research on the application of retinal chips in diseases of the retina. There is a preliminary agreement on the arrival of the German colleagues in the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases with the goal of training, selection of patients for research and operations.

In the framework of the delegation of ophthalmologists Institute of eye diseases was visiting Professor Gernot Richter clinic Augen-MVZ GmbH Lauzits. In his presentation, which he addressed to M. D. Professor M. M. Bikbov, Professor G. Richter praised the scientific achievements Ufrii GB, with whom he constantly met at the Institute's website, and suggested the main directions of joint work. Bashkir ophthalmologists with interest discussed practical aspects of ambulatory surgery, management of patients after vitreoretinal interventions, the implementation of scientific results into clinical practice. There was a meeting with Professor Gregor Wollensak, with the Institute connects research interests and development of a new correction of the cornea in keratoconus.
