The Institute performs scientific research of applied and fundamental character. In recent years, the Institute actively participates in the implementation of innovative projects. The result was the development of the apparatus for ultraviolet irradiation of the cornea "Uplink", protector of the cornea "Extralink", which is currently mass-produced. The device and the protector are now widely used in ophthalmologic clinics of Russia – from Moscow to the Far East, as well as in CIS countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan) and abroad (Vietnam, India). read More Developments of the Institute are the laureates of the contests "100 best goods of Russia and Best goods of Bashkortostan" was awarded diplomas of II degree (with the award of silver medal) in the nomination "the Best innovative project and best scientific and technical development of the year" at the St. Petersburg Technical Fair, were presented at Russian and international exhibitions, including in Madrid (Spain). Developed the Device power control ultraviolet radiation "UV tester" recommended for serial production and further application in medical practice when working with devices that generate ultraviolet radiation. Proposed new types of photosensitizers for UV-crosslinking of corneal collagen in patients with keratectasia: "Robolink", "Hirolink", "Epitres and Roboticly". The Institute annually holds scientific-practical conference, which brings together leading domestic and foreign specialists. Thus, the traditional conference "East-West" annually attracts more than 700 guests from almost all regions of the country from Moscow and St.-Petersburg to the Far East, as well as from the UK, Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, USA, India and other countries. Organization of the broadcast of "live surgery" of the operating of the Institute during the conference contributes to the professional growth of ophthalmologists of the Republic. Repeatedly (in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016) on the basis of the Institute held courses on vitreoretinal surgery, age-related macular degeneration and ophthalmic manifestations of diabetes. For the first time in Russia the conference was held for school courses, during which ophthalmologists from Russia, CIS and far abroad received an opportunity to train in performing vitreoretinal surgery, phacoemulsification and corneal surgery, including femtosecond laser. Staff UV NII GB take part in the Russian and foreign conferences and symposia with oral presentations. So, scientists of the Institute shall submit annually the results of their research at congresses of ophthalmologists (Italy, France, USA, Germany, UK, Japan, Mexico). Appreciation was expressed for the report Bikbova G. M. and M. M. Bikbov: on the use of PocketMaker device in the production of transplants for automated endothelial keratoplasty, the authors have received the prestigious award "InnovationAward - 2012" for contribution to development of ophthalmology (Milan, Italy, 2012).The awarded contribution of the Director of our Institute Professor M. M. Bikbov: the development of ophthalmology and the implementation of scientific and clinical collaboration between East and West (Hamburg, Germany, 2013). The best was the report of the PhD of R. R. fayzrahmanova at the conference "VasKon-2014" (Chennai, India, 2014). In 2013 a large delegation from the Institute visited with working visit public and private ophthalmic hospitals in Germany for practical familiarization with the organization of work and the discussion of questions of carrying out joint research works. In 2014, the delegation UV NII GB in the framework of the XXXII Congress of the European society of cataract and refractive surgeons have a working visit to the state hospital - the Royal hospital (Queen's Hospital) and one private clinic, The Wellington Hospital in London with the aim of practical acquaintance with the organization of work on provision of eye care. Young employees of the Institute regularly take part in various competitions. In 2011, a group of young scientists - PhD Bikbov: G. M., Khabibullin A. F., bajmukhametov N. Uh. - won the competition of innovative developments and awarded the State Republican youth prize in the field of science and technology for research work "New technologies of treatment of pathology of the cornea". In 2013 zaynullina N. B. received a grant from the European society of cataract and refractive surgeons (ESCRS), taking first place in the section of ophthalmology at the VIII conference of young scientists "Actual problems of ophthalmology" (Moscow). The Report Astrelina M. N. in 2017, won second place in the section "Fundamental biomedical approaches to the development of innovative methods for the treatment of ophthalmic pathologies," and the author was awarded a certificate for passing a two-week cycle of training (WETLAB) on the basis of "IRTC "eye microsurgery" them. Acad. S. N. Fedorov", Moscow. In 2015, Grants of Fund of assistance to development of small forms of enterprises in scientific-technical sphere and the Fund "SKOLKOVO" was awarded the project "DCRYSTAL" - drainage for lacrimalis surgery". The project "Navigation system for the visually impaired" was the winner in the category "medicine of the future" in the Republican contest "UMNIK - 2015". For three years scientists of the Institute were held in cooperation with Switzerland the program "Luminous" for the treatment of patients with age-related macular degeneration. Currently a joint study with scientists from Heidelberg University (Germany) and Royal College (UK) for detection of ophthalmic pathology among the population of Ufa, Russia and regions of Belarus - "Ufa Eye and Medical Study" (UEMS). Together with ophthalmologists Germany continues to work on the treatment of children with amblyopia with the use of modern computer technology, the results of which are highly appreciated by the ophthalmologists of Germany at the Congress of the Saxon ophthalmic companies. Registration of clinical trials in the treatment of corneal diseases in the international database of clinical trials ClinicalTrials.gov PRS is evidence of the conformity of the study to international standards. A number of members of the Institute for significant achievements in ophthalmology was awarded. In 2011 for the work "Atlas of ocular pathology" Academy of Sciences of Belarus M. T. Aznabaev, Professor V. B. Malkhanova PhD N.. Nikitin was awarded the State prize of the Republic of Bashkortostan in science and technology. Prof. M. M. Bikbov, MD, PhD G. M. Bikbov: the laureates of the Academy of Sciences RB im. Professor Gulnara Kudoyarov for work "Ectasia of the cornea" (2013). A group of scientists consisting of Professor M. M. Bikbov: MD Babushkina A. E. and K. M. N. O. I. Orenburkina for work "Inhibitors of angiogenesis in surgical treatment of neovascular glaucoma" and received the Grant from the Russian glaucoma society for the year 2012 in the category "Treatment of glaucoma". In 2014, MD Faizrakhmanov R. R. and PhD Yarmuhamedova A. L. was awarded a Grant from the Republic of Bashkortostan following the results of competition of scientific works of young scientists and youth research teams for work "Age-related macular degeneration". One of the important tasks is the training of highly qualified personnel in graduate and clinical residency, courses of improvement of qualification. In recent years (2007-2016). employees of the Institute defended 7 doctoral and 27 candidate's dissertations, published 13 monographs, published more than 900 scientific papers, received more than 80 Patents for inventions. On the basis of scientific-educational Department of the Institute are trained each year by ophthalmologists from different regions of Russia, in particular Tatarstan, the Volga region, Siberia, the Far East, as well as from neighboring countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan. On the basis of modern educational laboratory WETLAB young specialists of Belarus and the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan master the technique of ultrasonic phacoemulsification.
